Question #1

Do you think male and female students need to be taught in different ways? How so, or why not?

In an all-boys class, do you prefer having a female or a male teacher? Or does it matter? Please explain your thinking.

  1. I think that some classes really should be just for boys or just for girls because each gender learns differently. As for the teacher I don't really think it matters. As long as the teacher isn't a sexist to girls in a guys class then of course that wouldn't work very well.

  2. Honestly I think that single gender classes are important but should not be absolute. I like the all boys class, because I always know that I have a friend to talk to the teacher is fantastic and I am inspired to write.

  3. I don't know if male or female students need to be taught id different ways because I have been in all boys class for two years and there is no difference of teaching.

I prefer a female teacher because with a male teacher class gets distracted much more than with a female teacher.

  4. No I don't think it really matters how each gender is taught, we have all been taught the same way since elementary to middle school and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference in how smart we are gender to gender.

  5. I don't really think that male and female students really need to be taught differently. We all learn in different ways its not just boys and girls that need to be taught differently.

I don't think it matters what gender teacher we have but male teachers may be able to relate to boys better.

  6. I think that it is true that different genders learn in different ways and should be taught in different ways but I don't know that there needs to single gender classes to achieve this. As for the teacher I don't think that it matters, either way.

  7. I feel that male and female students do need to be taught differently because even though we may be similar we have many differences and learning styles and those need to be emphasized and capitalized upon to make each student become the best he can be. I'm not sure if a male or female student would make a difference because I have only experienced a female teacher, but I would guess that it doesn't entirely matter because teachers generally know how students learn differently and make the best use of that.

  8. yes, i think that girls and boys need to be taught differently because we are different. Boys i feel need to work in groups and always be involved in the class and not just sitting and listening to a lecture. Girls i think are different, but im not sure because im not a girl.

In a all boys class i dont think it matters what gender your teacher is. Last year of my second semester freshman year i had two all boys classes. I didnt sign up for them but i was sure glad that i was in them. But to answer the question in my all boys science class i had a guy teacher and in my all boys math class i had a girl teacher. i enjoyed both classes not just because the teachers were awesome but that it was all boys so teachers tend to teach it differently then normal classes. The difference between my all gender class first semester and this semesters all one gender class is a lot different. The teacher teaches different and i think i just find it funner to be in a room full of guys.

  9. I don't think it needs to be taught any differently. I really like the way it is taught though because it fits what I think.

    Teacher gender doesn't matter.

  12. I think that boys should be taught in a more active environment to keep them interested because most classes get extremely boring sitting and listening for a whole hour. I dont think it matters what kind of teacher there is in the class as long as they are cool and know how to run a all boys class.

  13. I believe that students don't need to be taught in different ways because of gender. I also believe that the gender of the teacher doesn't matter as much as the personality of the teacher.

  14. I think that boys and girls don't necessarily need to be taught differently. The teaching methods shouldn't change from class to class, even if just for the sake of consistency. However, I think that if there are only single gender classes, there should be a difference in course contents. Boys and girls have different interests in what they would like to learn about. Boys, generally prefer to read about lots of bloodshed and fighting, such as Macbeth, while girls would probably enjoy a book like Romeo and Juliet. Reading books that are liked by one gender and not the other in coed classes leads to attention from one half of the class, but then has a general lack of interest from the other.

In the single gender classes, or at least from my point of view, the teacher's gender is of little relevance. As long as the content matter is engaging to the students, the teacher's gender should be of no consequence.

  15. Boys should be taught through competitive games, or motivated with prizes. Ms. Leclaire will sometimes make a snack for the winning group of a competition. This motivates us and it feels good to be a winner. I don't know if its the same way with girls, but I love competition.
As for the preference of teacher, I think a female for all boys and male for all girls is a good system, because it allows the students and teacher to develop a certain distant between them. It keeps the guys or girls in check, and also presents a different POV on group discussions.

  16. I don't think that it really matters how different genders are taught but how an individual learns the best. Last semester it was hard for me to stay focused because it wasn't very interactive, but this semester i am focused and it is easier to learn. I don't think the gender of the teacher really matters.

  17. Ya when you look at it they do need to be taught in different ways but when you put them together they will still learn so it doesn't really matter

I prefer a female teacher because I had a all guys class with a guy in freshmen year and that guy was sucked to learn from I would prefer female mostly because they are better to learn from

  18. I think that their isn't a difference on the way that male and female students need to get thought because if the style changes then they should change the learning style for everybody because some people are auditory learners and some are hands-on learners, so in fact the entire learning style would have to change.

I don't think it matters whether we have a female or male teacher because it's the students decision to pay attention or to not pay attention.

  19. Girls and boys are obviously different and when it comes to learning that statement stays true. Some boys are more willing to share if they are in an all-boys class while if they were in a coed class they would be less inclined to share there intelligent thoughts. Same gender classes are not for everyone, some boys might think this class is harder to share their thoughts in because they will get compared to the other boys that might be a little smarter than them.
In an all-boys class I don't really have an opinion on if the teacher should be male or female; this is my first all-boys class and my only teacher has been a female. I have really enjoyed having a female teacher because she is a great teacher and she connects with us well.

  20. I think that some boys and some girls need to be taught differently, when the teacher gives out only wirksheets, and sits at the computer, it doesn't show that they care about the kids education. I have noticed that teachers that give busy work in class that they do not value their education enough to teach students.

I feel that female teachers pay more attention to their students and make them feel more comfortable with sharing their thoughts.

  21. I don't think you should be taught differently based on gender but instead learning style. I have not had trouble learning with girls in my classes but instead having the teacher teach in a different way that i like or understand.

I don't think it matters what gender the teacher is. If they can teach the material then it shouldn't matter.

  22. I don't think that it matters witch way the genders are taught. We learn the same thing in the end.

I really don't think it matters what type of teacher is teaching the gender class as long as they treat you the same as any other person.

  23. I don't believe that your teachers gender matters i think it depends on the teacher. For example i had a all boys class with Mr teacher and in all boys classes there is a lot of nonsense that goes on. But if your teacher is strict like mr teacher than non of that goes on. But if you have a teacher who is not strict but is really nice and people respect like Ms Leclaire than that non sense dosen't go on.
I think that male and female students don't need to be taught differently because then they might get something out of their teachings that the other gender didn't get. Also i think that we are all the same so we can be taught the same and not in different ways.

  24. I don't think the way we learn is about gender or groupings-its about the individual. So my perspective is simple: Everyone is different. Depending on the boy, they could be distracted by a girls chest in 1.35 seconds. Other boys know that that can wait til later. Other boys don't particularly care- and some are gay.

Some girls get caught up flirting with that guy next to her, some know that that can wait til later, some just aren't interested in that, and again- some are gay.

Point being that It all depends on the student- not on the gender itself.

  25. Boys and girls don't need to be taught differently because we all learn the same. Just because we aren't the same gender doesn't mean we can't learn the same. I feel like it is too far fetched to place guys and girls in different classes. I'd rather have a girl teacher than a guy in an all guys class just because they seem to work better.

  26. Boys and girls need to be taught differently. I'm not sure how but they need different teaching styles. At this point in high school, I'd prefer a female teacher. I think they teach me better

  27. I think it can matter if you teach classes single gender. I also think it matters what classes are being taught. To me social studies is and important subject but it doesn't need to be taught in a single gender class. Math and English are another story. I have always noticed that guys think of math and English differently so those are the classes I think are the classes students could most profit from.

As for teachers I don't know if it would matter but I've only had two all boys classes and they've both been taught by Female teachers. So I'll leave that to the experts in charge.
