F451 Fishbowl #3

As you blog about pages 40-63 in Fahrenheit 451, slow down a little...pull in quotations that you think are significant or confusing. Use your annotations to guide you.

As always, maintain your professionalism and enjoy yourselves.

I look forward to reading this over spring break. And, by the way, I wish all of you a fantastic, safe spring break!

  1. Why did you think that Montag's wife forgot to tell Montag that Clarisse got hit by a car?

  2. Did you predict that Montag's wife would act mean and unpredictable?

  3. Dom- I feel that she didnt want to tell Montag because he has feelings for her, and that would worry him, maybe she thinks she did it for the best.

  4. Does anyone else find it sketch that a smart person who could oppose the government just randomly died?

  5. Dom Montag's Wife obviously has mental problems. She tried to commit suicide and the flatly denied that it even happened.

  6. Garret-
I think that the fact that she died is just part of their society now. I think that if the government sees a problem they just take care of it.

  7. Why did Bradbury decide to kill off Clarisse anyways?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Garrett- as it was said in the inner circle what happened to her was no accident. She was thinking differently than the government. So they killed her. It still happens these days as well.

  9. Garrett- I feel the mysterious death in not by chance, sombendy wanted that person dead, so they killed them.

  10. Mason-
I don't think she has mental problems she is just so absorbed and brain washed by technology it has become her entire life and it has taken an effect on her.

  11. Garret- They saw a problem and decided to get rid of it, all so they could keep their society in tact.

  12. Do you think that his wife had envy for Clarisse's relationship with Montag?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nikolaus- I kind of doubt it. She never seems to care about Montag most of the time and she wants to be pretty much isolated from him so I would have to say she doesn't.

  14. Nikolaus-
I don't think she really cares that much. She has already tried to kill herself and all she pays attention to is technology, so i don't think she cares.

  15. I think that his wife was extermely jealous of the relationship that they had.

  16. Garrett- I can see where you are coming from but i think that she is at least depressed.

  17. Justin:
Bradbury possibly killed of Clairisse to teach the reader to not get too comfortable with her as a character. The reader might think Clairsse is this different person from everyone else in the book and that she might be able to change Montag but then she suddenly gets killed off and it really shows the reader how crazy the world in F451 is.

  18. Nikolaus- I don't think she really knew what their relationship was because she didn't seem to care for what happened between them.

  19. Nikolaus-
I don't think she thought to deeply into that fact. She was so wrapped up in her own life that she probably didn't even notice how often they were together.

  20. I agree with Reece and Mark, she is so wrapped up in all these things she probably doesn't notice what is going on.

  21. On page 56, Mildred finds a book underneath Montag's pillow and it says that she has delight in her voice. Do you think she would be willing to turn in Montag to maintain her comfortable life?

  22. Justin-
I think that she would turn him in to maintain her comfortable life. She is kind of selfish through out the book so far and I think she would betray anyone even someone close to get what she wants.

  23. I agree with Brendan because by the death of Clairisse it really shows how the government is corrupt and also how far they are willing to go to keep their society intact.

  24. Justin- Yes o do think that she would turn in her own husband to have he life stay the same. this may be her way of getting back at montag for the relationship he had with clairesse.

  25. Justin-
I am almost positive she would turn him in. She would probably get a reward for turning him in and then she could get her last wall for her TV.

  26. Justin:
She could possibly but then again when it says she has a "delight" in her voice she might actually be grateful that he found it and wouldn't even think of turning him in. If she did rat him out though I wouldn't be surprised.

  27. Justin-
i think she would turn him in, but she is too busy with her "family" that she would forget or just never get around to it.

I think she would turn Montag in because she really doesn't care for him. She cares more for herself than anyone else.

  29. Looking at Beatty's monologue on page 57, it essentially says that books were originally banned to eliminate discrimination. Do you think that their initial cause was good and noble, but turned sour with time?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Justin-
I think their cause was supposed to be a good and noble cause but never would be able to be that way. The second books became banned this society lost a very valuable part of their society and they are lost without these books.

  31. What if Mildred waited to turn Montag in and then when she got around to doing it she would get in trouble because she waited too long. Maybe she knows that and doesn't even want to mess with it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Garett s.
that is a very good thought. I am optimistic about why society in this book is so messed up. It seems that intelligence is feared and a lost cause. Maybe its because robots seem to have such control and power. But i dont think it is a coincidence that clarisse is dead i think it was a robot that can detect her threat to the whole master plan that i think is taking place.

    Good point.
I think that Mildred is not going to do anything about it. She seems like she does not play an important role in this book because she and guy are so distant but so close at the same time. I predict that guy leaves mildred or for some reason she leaves him because of his conspiracy theories.

  34. Justin B.
I think that discrimination was not the cause becuse who would spend all that time and money to burn every book considering how greedy every governmantal system is. I think that they are trying to erase any evidence of the past so the people of the future can be controlled in a certain was the government wants it to be.

    ReplyDelete
  35. GarretS I think the government knows that it isn't hard to rally a group against something they aren't sure about or don't like and in order to keep the peace they just kill off people who seems to propose a fight.

  36. JustinB, referring to what you quoted to on page 56 about Mildred finding a book under Montag's pillow. I think she felt more joy to find something so rare and realize what she had found. It could also be the fact that she knows what kind of power this book holds for herself and against Montag.

  37. JustinB, referring again to what you quoted on page 57 about why they banned books, I completely agree with you in the idea that they banned books to try and make things better but just took it to far. Failing to create a perfect world they made a messed up one.
