  1. I think that Amir is the most cowardly person in the history of the world rivaled only by Assef.

  3. I could agree with you there for sure Matt.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The reason that Amir is cowardly because he doesn't know what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I cant believe that Hassan and Ali left them to have a worse life.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Matt How would you react to seeing your best friend being raped?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah, I agree with mason. There is no way that anybody could know to react.

    ReplyDelete
  8. matt how about hitler or people with guns that are only courages because they have a gun

    ReplyDelete
  9. Why do you think that Baba forgave Hassan for stealing Amir's items but Baba said the only sin is stealing?

    ReplyDelete
  10. m-I do i react to seeing my friend rape is that i would not talk to him i would be like uh see a latter dude

    ReplyDelete
  11. guys lets move on from the rape and to the current topic

    ReplyDelete
  12. Also i wonder why Hassan took blame for stealing Amirs stuff instead of saying that he didn't steal the money and the watch.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thats a good point matt because Amir doesn't have the cajones to go and talk to hassan about what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  14. i would beat the crap out of the guy and save my friend not sit there and watch

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would kick the rapists but and or kill him.No one deserves to be raped.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well cody they left because it was impossible to go on living the way they were. There relationship with Amir now was over.

    ReplyDelete
  17. how could someone just watch your best friend get raped? i would be unselfish and stand up for my friend if that were to happen

    ReplyDelete
  18. Brendan
I agree today's fishbowl has nothing to do with rape.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I feel like Amir is selfish and only concerned with himself. He watched his best friend get raped and he feels bad in this chapter but he still should have said something

    ReplyDelete
  20. Good point Carlos. People can be on top of the world with a weapon, but if you take that from them, they are just a scared bully.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why does Amir keep rejecting Hassans love? And what does he keep doing so even though Hassan shows unconditional fealty towards Amir?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Cody-it was because hassan wouldnt stand up and say I gave all that stuff to him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Cody I think Hassan took the blame because he sort of still felt guilty for what had happened to him because he thought it was his fault that it all happened.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jay-I don't get why he forgave him for stealing items ether its sounds a little weird forgiving him

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Cody M. I was confused on why Hassan took the blame for theft of cash and a watch

    ReplyDelete
  26. amir needs to realize he let his friend down and should go and talk to him, he at least owes him that for sitting there and watching him get raped.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i didn't wright that. it was this wierd kid.... hunter is his name

    ReplyDelete
  28. jake please stick to the book even though i agree

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jacob-
I think it's because Amir still cannot grasp what has happened and because he feels like he has made a mistake by not helping Hassan out. We know that Amir is scared to stand up for himself and I think that is why he keeps rejecting Hassans love. And this eventually led to Ali and Hassan moving away.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hunter- yea I dont get it either he said the only sin is stealing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. jacob- i think that he keeps rejecting his love because he fears he will be kicked out of his way of life

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with landon, Amir only cares for him self. he would have helped hasssan if he was a true friend.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why was Baba so mad at the fact that Hassan was stealing (Even though he wasn't) and then when Hassan and Ali tell Baba they are leaving he gets really sad and doesn't want them to go

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jay

I think the reason that Baba forgave Hassan because Hassan doesn't know what Baba thinks of stealing only Amir does.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jacob- I think he keeps rejecting him because he feels so unworthy of the kindness and love that Hassan shows him after what happened to Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well landon i think he did it because he knew that amir did it and that this situation was only going to get worse if he didn't. He was just trying to be a good friend to amir and take the blame for him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Carlos and Andy I agree about the whole bully thing I believe that the weapon is the source of allot of bullying, because a kid could be small and weak but he could have a gun and bully the biggest kids.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with you there Garrett he should do something because it makes it seem like he doesn't care.

    ReplyDelete
  39. amir has no idea how good of a friend hassan and hassan has no idea how bad of a friend amir is. maybe this is why they are so close but yet so far

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't understand why Amir didn't help his friends... i do not really think they are exactly friends... but later in the book i think they will turn into enemies rather then friends

    ReplyDelete
  41. Amir should feel more guilty than he does at the moment, especially when Hassan acts as if nothing happend and is kind to Amir

    ReplyDelete
  42. M-I guess maybe he thought that the sin will haunt him at night or something like that it doesn't make to much since i would like punch him in the face if he stole something from me

    ReplyDelete
  43. Dominic-
But if Baba really meant that stealing is the only sin, don't you think he would tell Hassan that it's the only thing that bugs him? Wouldn't he teach Hassan that stealing is the only wrong that a man can do?

    ReplyDelete
  44. What do you guys think of the line were Amir says that he tought his presents were blood money?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't think Baba was mad at Hassan i think he was disappointed and was sad to lose his brother because he thought he would never see him again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @jacobs2012
I think its because amir blames himself for what happened to hassan, while hassan thinks that it isnt amirs fault

    ReplyDelete
  47. How do you all think Hassan knew Amir was there?

    ReplyDelete
  48. jake- i think the friends will go there own ways then reconnect after they realize that both of their lives revolve around one another.

    ReplyDelete
  49. why is hassan still friends with amir? he did not help him and hassan took blame for him but he still is not a very good friend.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Brendan
I think Hassan is like his kid so he has to punish him but he didn't want him to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree with Cody because he did nothing when he say what Assef did to Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mason- I thinks that he thinks its blood money because the presents arent really for Amir the person but for the blood that runs through him the blood of his dad and grandpa.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm still a little confused on the theft that occurred. can someone help me out?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thanks Gage. People can really show their true colors when they are afraid. And when people are scared and dont want to show it, the react in a "mannly" sort of way, by having a gun, or a knife.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jay- i agree what you say about the whole stealing thing

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm confused with what happened between chapters 9 and 10?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Cody- I agree he thinks that they arent for him his father is just trying to basically bribe him.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Gabe,

You make a great point, I never thought of it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Dominic- Baba wouldn't necessarily talk to Hassan about that because Hassan is first of a all a Hazara and he isn't even his responsibility, Hassan is Ali's responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Garrett-
Hassan is still trying to be friends with Amir because he is a Hazara and his only friend was Amir. You didn't see Hassan hanging out with anyone else except for Amir. They flew kites together, played in the tree with the slingshot together, and everything that happened they did it as a team.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Why did Amir choose to lie about Hassan stealing his birthday gifts in order to attempt them to leave? Why didn't he just ignore him or tell Baba the truth and how their relationship was deteriorating?

    ReplyDelete
  62. GarrettS
I think their still friends because Hassan is a servant to him and he has to obey him

    ReplyDelete
  63. Gabe-ya i agree you want to punish him but not to much for him to leave

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lance,

The fighting was getting too bad where they lived so they had to move to Pakistan for safety.

    ReplyDelete
  65. garett- he is still friends with amire because he truely thinks amir is loyal to him. amir is the only thing that protects him from assef even if amire lets him get raped. amir is the bulletproof glass between assef and hassan

    ReplyDelete
  66. Landon- Amir put some money and his watch under Hassans mat because he didnt want his presents and he thought that Hassan should have them but instead Hassan and his dad thought this was a good opportunity to leave their house because of the tension between the families.

  68. I agree with Mason.... as if he really isn't his father but trying to make him think he is his father

    ReplyDelete
  69. Gabe-
Hassan wasn't really considered as a servant. Baba said that Ali felt more like a brother than a servant and they didn't look at them any other way. Hassan wanted to be friends with Amir not because he had to.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mason- i also think he i trying to bribe him.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Garett..... that first comment was not appropriate to the discussion. I would like you to keep it on topic

    ReplyDelete
  72. jacob- i think he doesn't say anything because he fears his baba will beat him and never talk to him again

    ReplyDelete
  73. jacobs2012
Amir is a coward and won't tell on him he rather lie about it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. well landon maybe you shouldnt steal other peoples triple es

    ReplyDelete
  75. @garrett
I think hassan is trying to remain a good friend with amir because the book dosent specifically mention him having many other friends, so he is trying to keep hold of the one he has had for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Garret- I agree he still has to serve him around its not like he can say no to being a slave

    ReplyDelete
  77. Baba cared more about his social standing than his son. Amir didnt want a party but his Father did it to up himself not for his son.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Gabe, Jay makes a good point Hassan wants to willingly be Amir's friend but what he doesn't know is that Amir knows and thats why he doesn't want to return the friendship.

    ReplyDelete
  79. does anyone think amir is so foul to hassan because he is jealous that baba and hassan are more alike.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I thought Kevin's question really brought up the main idea of ch. 9 and 10 and it made me think that it would definitely take a lot to tear apart best friends

    ReplyDelete
  81. Who do you think Baba is? His mindset and attitude changes from giving his own life for a woman he doesn't know and then almost killing the bus driver. What does he stand for?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Now that Hassan and Ali are gone, leaving Baba and Amir and fleeing the country, what does the book foreshadow about the trip over to Pakistan? What symbolism is shown between Hassan and Ali and Kamal and his father?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hey guys, just jumping in but I have to say a comment on what Mrs. Leclaire just said, do you guys think that people have to be equal to be best friends?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Why did Ali and Hassan leave in chapter 9?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Connor-
I think this is true in some sort of way. Baba does call Hassan with the title Jan and that is something that Amir never gets called. I think it also has to deal with Amir "killing" Baba's wife.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Connor,

I think you're right. I think Amir never really liked Hassan in the first place for that very reason.

    ReplyDelete
  87. agreeing with the inner circle that there not friends he's embarrassed to hang out with the servant

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think baba is trying to force amir into his ideal lifestyle. amir is not intrested in sports like baba wants him to be. this could eventually push amir and hassan apart as well as baba

    ReplyDelete
  89. jays2012 I agree with you but I think that Hassan didn't want to be there anymore because of the terrible thing that happened and had to stick it out till Ali and him left.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Connor- Yea I do he likes Hassan more because Hassan is everything that he wishes Amir was. Whenever he would go somewhere he would always bring Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Tanner,

Absolutely not. Some of the most different people can make great friends but it doesn't mean that people very alike can't be friends as well. Anyone can be friends.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Amir and Baba have little in common. Is it possible that Amir tried to get Hassan and Ali in order to get closer to Baba?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Jacob- i think it foreshadows the fact that they are tired if being servants and all the abuse they are taking from the world around them.

    ReplyDelete
  94. gabe-
I think that Hassan must have told Ali what had happened because there is proof that it shows that Hassan wasn't happy anymore and I think that Baba and Ali knew that there were some tension between Amir and Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Mason- this kind of thing happens alot. where a person is fulfilling the babas wish

    ReplyDelete
  96. Tanner

I would agree that friends should be equal, but sometimes there are friends that try to help out another friend or friends that feel lonely do what they do.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Tanner- I don't think people have to be equal to be best friends, it's definitely harder when you are in completely different social standings but it's still completely possible and you have to be able to disregard what everyone else says.

    ReplyDelete
  98. @tanner
I don't believe you need to be equal to be best friends. ex. In that one movie that came out "The Boy In The Striped Pajamas" 2 boys during the Holocaust had become very good friends, one of which was a German, and the other was a Jew in a concentration camp.

    ReplyDelete
  99. mason- I also think baba likes to bring hassan because he knows that he is a loyal well rounded young man that is not the type to give into his greed like amir is. he wants amir to mirror hassan and its killing amirs respect for hassan. jealousy plays a big roll between amir and hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Jacob-
I think that the bond between Kamal and his father his much closer than Baba and Amir's, but equal toAali and Hassans. Just because between father and son their is trust at first, and then second they would willingly take their life for one another. We saw this happen with Kamal and his dad and I believe it would be the same for Ali and Hassan.
