Explicit Lyrics

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Music with explicit lyrics (bad words) should be censored when played on the radio.

Please be thoughtful and thorough in your response (all responses should be at least 3 lines long), and remember to be professional with your grammar, spelling, and word choice.

  1. I disagree that bad words should be censored because then the song may be ruined because the bad word may be of significance. If someone does not want to hear bad words on the radio then they should not listen to the radio.

  2. I agree with Cody that lyrics should not be censored because a song is a way that someone expresses themselves and that should not have to be censored. And it may also be a word that expresses something that happened in that persons life and if people don't want to hear that they shouldn't listen to those songs.

  3. I do not think lyrics should be censored on the radio because the artist wanted their song to be used with that language because it is how they express their emotions. We should not block what message they are trying to convey.

  4. I disagree because it is people right to say what they want. It doesn't matter if its written in a book or sung through a song. If people don't want to hear bad words then they shouldn't listen to that radio station playing the songs.

  5. I agree with cody that bad words should be censored because then its like your trying to figure out what they said and little confused because they take it out or something well your just hearing a beep in noise an I think that beeping nose is worse then the actually bad words

  6. I kind of agree, because of the fact that if there is a young adult driving and they have a kid in the back, and they are listening to the radio, they are exposing the kid to things that they do not need to hear.

  7. I actually agree with the comment above. If someone doesn't want to hear bad words because of religious or moral reasons, they shouldn't have to. Just because they don't want to hear those words doesn't mean they should be excluded from listening to the radio. If you really want to hear bad words in music that badly then go buy the uncut version of the song.

  8. I think that there should be a warning possibly before the song begins that there are explicit lyrics and its not that I support swearing, but I do not think these people should be censored. I think that as Americans we have the freedom and right to express ourselves as we see fit as long as it is not damaging other people.

  9. I agree that explicit words should be bleeped out while the song is being played on the radio because while parents may like music and know certain words I don't think that they would want their children to know them at least until a certain age. So I agree with this statement and think that if people want to listen to the real song then they can buy it and listen to it at home.

  10. I do not believe songs should be censored on the radio. Often times the people who want the songs censored are parents. No matter how much you try, you cannot prevent other people in society from "swearing", no matter where you go, it is something frequently done in our society.

  11. I agree with Cody because if you know the station plays music with bad words in them then just change it because it would ruin the song. Plus if it censored the words that are good might be censored not the bad ones.

  12. I believe music is a for of expression, just like art. When you go to an Art Gallery don't you see nude images occasionally? Should art be burned because nude images are a small part of it? Maybe its not nude images but drugs or anything else deemed inappropriate. Just because a song may have one or two bad words doesn't mean we need to change the meaning of the song so some mother can feel safe listening to music. We need to be aware of the style of music on the radio, if it doesn't fit your taste go take a CD and burn the music that is rated G and fits your preferences. Then you are sure the music you listen to is something you are ok with.

  13. I agree with this because you never know who will be listening to the radio when that song comes on. But if you like that song and don't care about what they say just go listen to it on line or put it on your ipod.

  14. I agree with Cody, I believe a song is a way for someone to express the way they feel. Not that they couldn't have not used the bad word(s) in the first place, but if they do that's their choice and it is also YOUR choice to listen to the station, if you are against that, than don't listen to that station! It is plain and simple, don't go complain about why they are playing it, if you don't like than either deal with it, or listen to plenty of other radio stations. I think bleeping out the words ruin the song too.

  15. I agree with the statement. There should only be censored words come up on the radio, not ones with gangster slang, or ones that repeat the "F" bomb so many times that if you took all the F Bombs, it would equal half the song.

  16. If you are old enough to turn on the radio you can handle some bad words. There are radio stations on XM radio that aren't censored so just get Xm radio if you want uncensored music.

  17. I agree with Brendan. I think he has some good ideas about if bad words should be censored on the radio. I also think that they should be censored because anybody could be listening to the radio when a curse word flies out the speakers and if it is a little kid, it is not right for him to hear that.

  18. I don't believe that music should be censored on the radio. If parents don't want their kids to hear thee words they should choose a different radio station. Like what Nikolaus said music is a form of expression and if a song is censored it could change the meaning of the song.

  19. No, if a person likes the song that is being played on the radio they should listen to it. If you dont like bad words then just change the station that you are listening to. We shouldnt change the radio for other people if all they have to do is change the station they are listening to.

  20. Public broadcasting has a right to censor explicit words because anyone and every one can listen to the radio. Radio broadcasts should be appropriate for general audiences, and with parental guidance. If it couldn't be put in a PG movie, then it shouldn't be put on the radio.

  21. I agree with this, that certain words should be censored on public broadcast. honestly it doesn't really bug me but I don't want to have some pissed of mom start something about cussing in songs.

  22. Of course explicit lyrics should be played on the radio its part of the song. The only reason stations do that is for kids and overprotective parents. Look at it this way your kid is going to learn the f word and pretty much say it in every sentence when he learns the meaning so teach it to him now so he wont get exited and feel all big and mature because he can say f***. Also your kid is going to learn cuss words anyways the parent might as well teach them before some other kid because no matter what your kid is going to hear it so might as well not ruin songs on the radio.

  23. Lyrics should not be censored. If the artist needs to be explicit to show the theme and emotion of the song, why censor it. Most songs that are censored don't sound as good and that takes away from how good the artist really is. If people don't want kids to listen to the explicit songs, change the station, or turn off the radio. Don't make everyone suffer.

  24. I think if the band writes a song with explicit lyrics, then they wrote it for a reason. It shouldn't be blocked because it adds to the song. A curse word can add more anger or emotion to the song and the radio is taking away from it.

  25. I agree with the statement but i thought that the radios stations already block the bad words. If people want to hear the bad words they go out to buy the CD. If people don't want to hear the bad words, there are always clean versions of it.

  26. I agree with Matt that if you have a kid in your backseat and have explicit lyrics coming out of your radio, they don't need to hear it.

  27. I agree with Nikolaus S. because music is an exsperesion of art. Showing feelings of a person or being told of a story.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nikolaus, I completely agree with what you said. It is essentially the same thing; because an artist intended for their art to be viewed the way they created it, just as a musician intended for their music to be listened to the way they created it.

  29. I agree with Reece R,

I understand that young children shouldn't be introduced to such language at such a young age but by censoring a singers voice is like taking away his freedom of speech.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like how Nikolaus S. made the point of art, because it's so completely true! Music is a form of art and if the person can't handle that then they can change the channel or turn on a CD.

  31. I strongly agree with Connor, everyone is going to hear the words so why not just have them on the radio. Their parents can teach them the words and why they should or should not say them.
