Naked at the Airport

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Our airports are considering installing technology that would enable the security people to capture and view your naked image in order to make absolutely sure that no one is passing through the gate with any dangerous items on their body. We should utilize this technology in our airports because safety should outweigh personal privacy.

Remember to be thorough in your response (all responses should be at least 3 lines long), and to be professional in your grammar, spelling, and word choice.

  1. I do not agree with this security measure at all. I think that we should be able to have standard metal detectors so that we have safety but I think that having an image of people naked is way over the top.

  2. I would disagree with the statement because Dangerous things are already being detected already by metal detector. The only thing dangerous that a person would carry is something like a purse because it could hide things that is stuffed in there.

  3. I agree with this statement to a good extent. I feel that personal privacy is important but when it comes the safety of others, these should be installed. I don't know how much of a difference it would make because I don't know how fast they could catch the dangerous individual, but it would be smart to install these.

  4. I agree with the statement because nothing bad will happen with the picture of people being naked and it will help to stop bombings and help to stop people from dying. I think it is a good idea.

  5. This is different than the school issue. Here, the most important true statement is that safety outweighs comfort. In this situation, jeopardizing comfort for safety should be a priority on plane travel. Question to consider: If someone was about to get on oyur plane with a bomb, would you want them to get past security or guarantee they get caught with this technology. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather live than be blown up because people can't discomfort themselves for ten seconds. And it's not like they are looking at you naked for that reason, it is an image that roughly shows if anything other than your body is on you.

  6. I feel that this would be a violation to human privacy. Yes maybe the airports would be safer and people might be happier but at the cost of just anyone walking by at the right angle being able to see you naked? I don't think so. I agree with most people that terrorism is bad and would like it stopped but i do not feel that this is the proper way to go about it.

  7. I think something like this would be a step forward in the war on terror. Airlines are not a form of public transportation (there are other options rather than flying) and when one person brings something onto an airplane, it jeopardizes every person on that flight. I would be fine with an airport security guard looking at me with "Naked Goggles", because it would be a small price to pay to banish all airborne terrorist attacks.

  8. I do not agree with having this kind of security in our airports. We have metal detectors and other things necessary for keeping the airports safe. Being able to have images of naked people is like Aaron said, way over the top.

  9. The cameras that can portray a neked image of you on a screen should not be used, because that is showing the public your private parts and make somepeople feel very uncomfortable in the air port leading to the fall of the thriving business

  10. I disagree with the statement but you have to remember the Christmas day bombing attempt. I think it's a good idea but there should be some way to make the body anonymous like having the picture of a test dummy and just highlighting the suspected area.

  11. I do not agree with this because we deserve our privacy even in this matter they already have metal detectors, machines that detect every kind of smell you are emitting into the air even if its lodged inside your butt it will find it. this "new technology" is not new they use it on our luggage every time we go through security

  12. I agree with Andy in that this would bring an end to airport business. I feel this is pointless, as our current system works just fine.

  13. As much as I want terrorism to strop I just don't think airports should do this to travelers. We have to jump through enough hoops as it is for security and being seen naked through an X-Ray at the airport is too far.

  14. I would have to agree with this. What if someone did sneak something on bored and ended up killing you and everyone else. I bet you would have wanted the naked scanning machine, right? Honestly if someone in the TCA was to immature to handle this job they shouldn't even be protecting us. Going back to what AaronS2012 said about going back to medal detectors, not everything that these guys want to bring on the plane to hurt us is metal some of it is liquids that they have to mis together and... BOOM! I would have to agree with having these in use.

  15. OK, Is it me, or does something about this one seem wrong? I disagree with this statement because that isn't right to do that. we already have metal detectors that can do the searching for dangerous object for us. we don't need to have to go interupting peoples privacy for that reason.

  16. I think this is a horrible idea. There is no reason to install cameras in bathrooms ever. There is a point where you cross the line and installing cameras in bathrooms in definitely that. It would not bring safety to the airports, it would just make people not go to the bathrooms in the airport.

  17. I do not agree, because i think the security is good enough because we have not had another 9-11 because of the new security and I think we should stop there before we become too invasive.

  18. I guess its really up to the security I guess it sounds really stupid though it just seems like they just want to see a naked girl because there to cheap to go and buy porn or something but what I don't get if they see us naked and imagally remove clothes and all these things how would they see if you have a bomb or something because they would remove that image to so little confusing so I guess they can do what they want I disagree but if they want to see people naked so there not board go for it just don't stare at me perverts

  19. I don't think that they should allow this in our airport because it would just be invading our privacy when we are already being searched. We might need to make the search personal work harder in order to uncover hazards.

  20. I do not agree with this because although it may be a safer security measure there is a point when personal privacy overtakes security like this. Although it is the most high tech security measure they can find alternatives just as affective. They could invent something new thats just as useful and safe while keeping someones personal body private.

  21. what kind of pervert thought of this. I would rather just be LEGALLY felt up by security, than have some old man in a dark room with no windows looking
    at naked pictures of people.

  22. Conner M I agree with what he is saying such as that they have enough security already on airports do we need more so they can see my junk uh I think they have enough so they should stop worrying

Don't you think that It would be a violation of human rights though? Obviously these people are supposed to be professional and it may help a little bit but imagine if a really good looking woman had to walk through there. These people could easily make an excuse to "study" the image further and print it off to show there buddies. This probably would not happen but just the idea that it could is enough to make me not want that to pass.

  24. Disagree with Dominic. You can't say that metal detectors do the trick just fine after 9/11 broski. The world is all about improving technology, so what if it invades your oh so important privacy, it deals with the safety of possibly thousands of people so suck it up and sacrifice.

  25. I believe an Airport should install these detection systems, under a few conditions. First off I think the person that is viewing these images should be in an area that no other person can view the images as they do. It may be slightly extreme but how do you know that they are actually taking the picture of you if they are halfway across the airport? As of right now there could be cameras just like that taking pictures of people already but nobody knows. Personally I don't have an issue as long as the images arent distributed. TSA is extremely proffesional and I trust them with documentation of that importance. Evveryone trusts them with a passport which could be far worse then an image of nudity.

  26. i disagree with Dominic because if it will help the safety of our country then we should go with it. If you have nothing to hide, why bee worried

  27. @ Cody Kotelco

If the picture is rough image of the person then I agree then it should be installed because it would help that it might stop something that is dangerous.

  28. I strongly agree with Reece R because they could make new ways to help security without taking away our rights to privacy. The line is crossed when they are looking at people naked even if it is for safety.

I agree with you because other people should not be able to see with no clothes. I think that the medal detectors that we have now are good enough.

  30. Cody Kotelco, I agree with you. If the picture is just a silhouette of a person then we should use it. It could be very helpful in preventing disaster. But if it is just a picture of a person naked then it is going a little too far and disturbing peoples privacy. We do need to have tight security, but with some restrictions.

I disagree with you because it's new technology doesn't mean that all of the pictures taken will remain safe. Once a picture is taken and put on the internet it can never be taken off. I believe it's the same way with technology. I also don't think that taking someone's picture is going to save their lives. To every situation, there is a loop hole in which people will find and still carry out the deed.
